Script error launching AutoCAD/LT 2017 and 2018

Desktop Subscription AutoCAD 2017/2018 and AutoCAD LT 2017/2018 at launch time, close to the license validation stage, gives scripting errors.

Unknown but appears to be related to the licensing component. Also if folder redirect is enabled during installation it can cause AutoCAD to lose the correct path to the licensing files.


Closing error messages allows users to use ACAD LT 2017/2018.

It appears to me that the errors are related to DTS/CLIC code.

Possible solution #1
The following steps may prevent the script errors:

  1. Disconnect the computer from the network.
  2. Start AutoCAD - the script errors do not appear - an activation screen appears.
  3. While the activation screen is present, reconnect the computer to the network.
  4. Activate AutoCAD - AutoCAD then opens with no errors.

Possible solution #2
We may have found a solution. The issue may be caused by the language parameters of the shortcut which is automatically placed on the desktop upon install.

When you right click the icon go to properties - on the shortcut tab delete the /language "en-US" from the Target text box and then start the program.

Possible solution #3
Double-click on a DWG file to launch AutoCAD. AutoCAD should launch without any script errors. The desktop icon should then also work without any script errors.

Try re-associating .DWG files with the AutoCAD DWG Launcher as per the instructions in DWG file type associativity in Windows.

Clicking yes to continue running script. A blank dialog box might appear within the task bar. Close the dialog box by right clicking on the icon in the task bar and select close. You should receive an activation page that allows you to activate.

Possible solution #6
Launch AutoCAD from the file location and run as administrator. If script error does not occur let AutoCAD finish loading and then close it. Launch AutoCAD again normally by double clicking on the shortcut and verify error does not occur.

Possible solution #7
If you are using network licensing you may be receiving these errors due to a misconfiguration of your licensing type. Go to the folder that corresponds with your product code located at the path below and open the file with Notepad. Edit the first line to read: _NETWORK and save the file.
